Minister Bhattarai stresses on freeing education sector from political influence

Kirtipur (Kathmandu), Jan 9: Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Bidya Bhattarai, has said she was effortful to make education sector free from influence of political parties.

Minister Bhattarai said so in a programme organized by the Education Journalists Network (EJON) here today.

“The recently held central committee meeting of the CPN (UML) has taken the decision not to stage strike at educational institutions and shut them down. The education sector can be made free of political influence if other parties make such commitment,” she argued.

Sharing that she was actively involved to address all issues of education sector and to make basic-level education mandatory as stipulated in the Constitution, the Education Minister added the Ministry is in preparation to hand over the responsibility of conducting Secondary Education Examination to the provinces.

“Preparation is on to form National Examinations Board so that the examination of class 10 and 12 will be conducted by the same body and to hand over the responsibility of conducting exam of class 10 by the respective province,” mentioned Education Minister Bhattarai.

She further said the government has been working to use local production and maintain quality of day-meal provided to school children, stating action-plan till 2083 has been made for the same.

The Ministry is planning to scrap the charge taken for registration, late fine and certificate from the coming budget as the commencement of implementation of free education, she stressed.

Minister Bhattarai also expressed commitment to regulate 59 campuses running educational programme in affiliation of foreign universities and the 900 educational consultancies as well.

Homework is underway for capacity building of Nepal Academy of Science and Technology, Forensic Lab, BP Koirala Memorial Planetarium, Observatory and Science Museum to achieve high returns.
