Metropolitan police force deployed for disaster management in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, Oct 4: In view of the continuous rainfall since last night, the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police has deployed 100 municipal police force across the city.

The local government has also made plans to evacuate people from any affected areas to nearby schools that are considered safe. Residents are urged to contact the Metropolitan City Office immediately if they face any problems in their localities.

According to Bishnu Prasad Joshi, Superintendent of Metropolitan Police Force and Chief of the Disaster Management Division, the situation in various parts of the country, including Kathmandu, has become sensitive due to the ongoing rain.

In Kathmandu, the metropolitan police have already been mobilized to handle any potential crisis. People living in vulnerable areas have been asked to take extra precautions, stay alert, and remain indoors unless there’s an emergency.

During a recent inspection, it was found that the Hanumante River had caused a cave-in on the west side of Soaltee Mode, leaving only about five meters of space between the river and nearby houses. To prevent further erosion, sacks filled with gravel are being placed along the riverbank. These preventive measures are being carried out by the metropolitan police force and the Disaster Management Department, it is said.
