Agency, September 17: French forward Kylian Mbappé scored twice to inspire Real Madrid to a comeback victory in the UEFA Champions League. On Tuesday night, Madrid defeated Marseille 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu, making a strong start to their campaign.
Marseille had taken the lead in the 22nd minute when Timothy Weah converted a pass from Mason Greenwood. However, Madrid quickly responded. In the 29th minute, Mbappé calmly slotted home a penalty to level the score at 1-1.
The match grew more challenging for Madrid when Dani Carvajal was shown a red card in the 72nd minute, reducing them to ten men. Despite the setback, Mbappé once again delivered, scoring his second from the penalty spot in the 81st minute to give Madrid a 2-1 lead.
Neither side managed to add to the scoreline in the closing stages, and Madrid secured all three points to begin their Champions League journey on a high.
