Kathmandu, Sept 21: The CPN (Maoist Centre) has decided to dissolve its central committee to make it the General Convention Organizing Committee. A meeting of the Maoist Centre’s office bearers held on Sunday proposed to take this motion to the upcoming central committee (CC) meeting.
Talking to the media after the meeting, Maoist Centre’s Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota said the proposal to make the existing central committee as the General Convention Organizing Committee will be tabled in the upcoming CC meeting as an agenda.
Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ will lead the General Convention Organizing Committee.
Sapkota said that institutional views would be made from the party’s official forum in the changing political context.
The party has summoned its standing committee meeting on September 24 and CC meeting on September 25 to discuss the proposal of the party office bearers’ meeting.
The decision of the Maoist Centre comes in the wake of the Gen-Z protests as the protest has mounted pressure on the established political forces too.
“Preliminary discussions were held on the ideals, and procedures and process of leadership handover,” Sapkota shared.
At the meeting, Maoist Centre Chairman Prachanda briefed the leaders on the changed political context and proposed to move ahead in a new fashion. Likewise, the meeting has appealed to the country’s patriotic, democratic and progressive forces to unite in the present political context.
