Make security arrangements based on facts: Home Minister Aryal

Janakpurdham, Oct 28: Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has said the country’s security situation is gradually turning normal with the formation of the incumbent government.

In his address to the security coordination meeting held at the Armed Police Force, Nepal no 2 Chhinnamasta Brigade Headquarters in Mahottari, he said the government is emphatically working to normalize law and order, and service delivery that was derailed after protests led by the Gen z; conduct the upcoming March 5 elections in a free and fair manner, and promote good governance.

The Home Minister further said the government has taken its move focusing on the elections by analyzing the law and order situation in the districts in the current state and gradually fixing the challenges.

Informing the government’s decisions regarding the preparation of identity card to those injured during the Gen Z protests and distribution of relief, Minister Aryal directed the agencies concerned to effectively execute the decisions.

“We are working to further recognize the deceased and their families, and provide effective and long-term treatment, as well as support to the injured”, the minister added.
He said the government has engaged its efforts to step up preparation for elections by further tangibly strengthening security situation.

He also urged all security related agencies to realize their spectacular role in enabling election environment and making it a success.

“We will timely carry out the policy and legal responsibilities and obligations from the central level. In this connection, legal amendment, resource management and consultation with political parties and stakeholders are taking place”, he shared.
Issuing directive to promptly prepare reports by analyzing the needs to rebuild and improve polling centers, he suggested to the provincial and district level structures to quickly finalize the election security plan.

He instructed to maintain law and order at the provincial and district levels, gather credible information and analyze on matters such as crime control, and communicate risk factors to the relevant authorities in a timely manner.

He further said, “Work effectively by coordinating among security agencies and conducting joint patrols to give the public a sense of security”.

Highlighting good governance and transparency as another agenda of government formation, Home Minister Aryal emphasized the need to deliver services according to the demands, desires, and thinking of the common citizens today and in the future.
Pointing out the need for investigations by security agencies to be impartial and fact-based, he instructed that issues such as revenue leakage control and crime prevention should be addressed seriously.

On the occasion, the Home Minister reminded the police officers on their performance which counts for evaluation. “As the cold wave is also a severe threat to life in Tarai, it is imperative to have a proper plan of action to prevent human loss,” Minister Aryal said, adding that effective coordination can tackle disaster impacts.

Secretary Rameshwor Dangal also said honesty and integrity among security persons is essential for transparency in service delivery.

Security chiefs from the districts of Madhes province and chief district officers of Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari and Sarlahi attended the meeting to evaluate the recent development in the wake of the Gen Z protest and government’s preparation for the election. Security situation, good governance and service delivery were also discussed in the meeting, according to Home Minister’s secretariat.

The chief district officers made presentations on the occasion.
