Madrid Derby: Real Madrid suffer humiliating defeat

Agency, Sept 28: Real Madrid endured a humiliating loss in the Spanish La Liga “Madrid Derby,” falling 5-2 to Atlético Madrid on Saturday night. This marked Madrid’s first defeat of the season.

At the Metropolitano Stadium, Julián Álvarez struck twice for Atlético, while Robin Le Normand, Alexander Sørloth, and Antoine Griezmann each added a goal. For Real, Kylian Mbappé and Arda Güler found the net.

Le Normand opened the scoring in the 14th minute from a Simeone cross, giving Atlético an early lead. Madrid hit back in the 25th minute, when Mbappé converted from Güler’s pass to level at 1-1. Eleven minutes later, Güler himself scored from a Vinícius Júnior assist to put Madrid ahead 2-1.

However, just before halftime, Sørloth equalized for Atlético, making it 2-2 at the break. In the 51st minute, Álvarez converted a penalty to restore Atlético’s advantage, before curling in a stunning free-kick in the 63rd minute to make it 4-2.

The rout was sealed in stoppage time, when Griezmann netted Atlético’s fifth in the 93rd minute, handing Real Madrid a crushing 5-2 defeat.

With the win, Atlético climbed to fourth place with 12 points from seven matches. Real Madrid, despite the setback, remain top of the table with 18 points from the same number of games.
