Kathmandu, Aug 29: The government has appointed Chandrakuber Khapung as the 32nd Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP). A Cabinet meeting on Friday decided to elevate Khapung to the top police post, effective from September 4 (Bhadra 19).
IGP Deepak Thapa is retiring on September 3 (Bhadra 18) after completing 30 years of service. Khapung will formally assume charge the following day.
According to officials, the appointment was finalized ahead of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli’s departure to China on Saturday. The prime minister is scheduled to return only on September 3, the day Thapa steps down.
Khapung currently heads the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police.
