Home Minister directs for robust security during election

Kathmandu, Feb 6: Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has directed the chiefs of security agencies to ensure smart and robust security arrangements for the election.

In a meeting of the Central Security Committee held under his chairmanship on Friday, Home Minister Aryal directed the security bodies to remain on high alert in regard to the electoral security arrangements, leaving no stone unturned.

The meeting also reviewed the implementation status of the past decisions of the meeting, prepared a roadmap for strategies to address further possible security challenges as the election is approaching nearer.

Home Ministry’s Spokesperson Anand Kafle shared the information that the meeting of the Central Security Committee, comprising secretaries from ministries of home and defense and chiefs and representatives of all four security bodies reviewed the works executed by the responsible agencies, workforce mobilization and logistic plans. The Integrated Election Security Plan-2082 BS is in force, targeting the upcoming election and the review was made under this frame.

The meeting also decided to further strengthen the advance unit of the Nepal Police tasked with combating the misuse of social media, to take action against anyone found engaging in activities against the election, and to ban the use of drones during the election period.

Likewise, the meeting agreed to ensure insurance for election security personnel and the election police (temporary police persons), to identify voting stations sans communications facility and make necessary arrangements and to monitor the possibility of dissemination of fake/ misleading and hate statements violating the election code of conduct, it is said.
