Kathmandu, Feb 8: Minister for Health and Population Dr Sudha Gautam has shared that cervical cancer could be cured with treatment if it is detected in early stage.
In a video message, wishing for the success of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine campaign against cervical cancer began from today in a video message, Minister Gautam requested all to confidently administer the vaccine as it is safe.
She also urged all women above 30 years to undergo cervical cancer test in a regular basis. “Infection of HPV virus is the main reason behind cervical cancer. It can be prevented through the vaccine against the virus,” she argued.
The health Minister underlined that HPV vaccine is being run under regular campaign from last year with an objective eliminating cervical cancer in the country.
The government has started administrating HPV vaccine nation-wide to girls studying in grade six and the girls aged 10, who are out of school, from today. Similarly, girls from grade 7-10 who missed last year’s vaccine campaign as well as girls aged 11-14 years, who are out of school, would be vaccinated.
In average, six women suffer from cervical cancer and four die from it every day in Nepal.
