Kathmandu, Oct 13: Hamas has confirmed the death of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who had been held captive in Gaza since being abducted by the group two years ago. The militant group said it will hand over Joshi’s body to Israeli authorities.
Joshi’s condition had remained unknown until now. Following the recent ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, the group released 20 hostages on Monday. Later that night, Hamas’s military wing announced it was preparing to transfer the bodies of four hostages, including Joshi.
Nepali Ambassador to Israel Dhan Prasad Pandit said the Israeli army had earlier informed Joshi’s family and the Nepali Embassy that “no proof of life” had been found for the Nepali hostage.
According to reports, Hamas had provided Israel with details of 48 remaining captives — 20 alive and 26 dead. However, Joshi’s name had appeared in neither list, leaving uncertainty about his status until Monday’s confirmation.
