Haaland’s late penalty seals dramatic win for Manchester City

Agency, Feb 9: Manchester City secured a dramatic victory in the English Premier League after forward Erling Braut Haaland converted a penalty in injury time on Sunday night. City defeated a 10-man Liverpool 2–1 at Anfield in a tense and eventful encounter.

Bernardo Silva and Haaland were on the scoresheet for City, while Dominik Szoboszlai netted the lone goal for Liverpool. The first half ended goalless, with both sides struggling to break the deadlock.

Liverpool took the lead in the 74th minute when Szoboszlai curled in a superb free-kick to give the hosts an early advantage. City responded ten minutes later as Silva found the net in the 84th minute, finishing from a precise pass by Haaland to level the score at 1–1.

Deep into injury time, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson fouled Darwin Núñez inside the box, prompting the referee to award a penalty. Haaland stepped up and calmly converted from the spot, sealing a 2–1 win for the visitors.

The drama continued when Liverpool’s Szoboszlai was shown a straight red card in the 13th minute of injury time following a foul, reducing the hosts to 10 men. No further goals were scored as City held on for the victory.

With the win, Manchester City move up to second place in the Premier League standings with 50 points from 25 matches. Liverpool, meanwhile, remain sixth with 39 points from the same number of games.
