Kathmandu, July 4: President Ramchandra Paudel has remembered the late Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala as an iconic leader of revolution and peace.
Speaking at a programme organized on Friday to mark the 102nd birth anniversary of Koirala, the President said, “In one sentence, I term Girija Prasad Koirala as a leader of revolution and peace.”
The late leader had a significant role in guiding Nepal’s political transformation, President Paudel said, adding that Koirala led three major political watersheds: the democratic movement, the peace process, and the establishment of the republic.
“In the later phase of his life, he emerged as an iconic politician and remained a lasting source of inspiration,” the President commented.
He praised Koirala’s resilience, high risk-bearing capacity, and steadfast commitment to democracy. “He was an undefeated leader with immense confidence who continuously fought for democratic values,” he said. “Koirala always encouraged his colleagues to move forward.”
The President utilised the time to stress that Nepal’s aspiration for national prosperity can only be achieved through the effective utilization of available resources. He laid emphasis on the importance of peace, stability, unity, collaboration, good governance, and people-centered services to reach this goal.
“We have the constitution drafted by the citizens themselves,” he reminded, “It envisions improved living standards for all and national prosperity.”
The President credited Koirala to the balanced economic approach for the country.
