Government will not appoint ambassadors immediately: Communications Minister

Kathmandu, Oct 30: The government has decided not to immediately send ambassadors to the countries where the positions are lying vacant.

At a press conference here today to disclose the cabinet decisions, Minister for Communications and Information Technology, also the spokesperson of the government, Jagadish Kharel informed that the interim government would not hasten to appoint ambassadors.

“Ambassadors will not be immediately appointed in countries where these posts are lying vacant; the embassies can be operated by second-tier staff, and the government runs diplomatic agencies economically”, Minister Kharel said.

The government has decided to amend Schedule 2 of the Act relating to remuneration and facilities of federal parliament officials and members of 2073 BS, reducing the positions in the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the minster shared.

The cabinet meeting also decided to approve an official state visit led by President Ramchandra Paudel from November 3-6 to participate in the ‘Second World Summit for Social Development’ to be held in Doha, Qatar.

The meeting decided to designate areas/systems that can provide access to the data in the National Identity Management Information System through electronic systems, ensuring compliance with the security standards set by prevailing laws.

According to the cabinet decision, these include services related to foreign employment, court case management, education, foreign study permission services of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, local level registration, citizenship, social security, relief and disaster management, immigration services, inmate identification, authentication, and information related to inmates.

The government has decided to schedule the election for the vacant position of National Assembly member on coming November 25, Sunday.

Similarly, it has decided to approve the Second Amendment of the Press and Publications Rules 2082.
