General Secretary Gagan Thapa calls for retirement of three major party leaders

Kathmandu, Oct 12: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has said that the three top leaders of the country’s major political parties should step down to pave the way for political reform and dialogue.

In a video message released on social media on Sunday, Thapa urged the leaders of the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and CPN (Maoist Centre) to “gracefully retire” and create space for a new generation of leadership.

“We should respect and sympathize with our leaders,” Thapa said, “but at the same time, I appeal to all members of the Congress, UML, and Maoist parties — the three leaders must step down without any ifs or buts.”

Thapa blamed the ongoing “musical chairs” between Sher Bahadur Deuba, KP Sharma Oli, and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ over the past decade for the country’s current political stagnation.

He said that genuine reform and national dialogue could only begin once new leadership takes charge within the major political forces.
