Former President Bhandari extends condolences to quake-affected Chinese people

Kathmandu, Jan 7: Former President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has expressed deep sorrow over the huge loss of lives and properties and injuries of Chinese citizens in the massive earthquake that struck Tibet Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China on Tuesday morning.

Taking to social media X (formally Twitter) today itself, former President Bhandari extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members through Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Chinese government.

“At this moment of profound grief, Nepal and Nepali people stand firmly by the Chinese people. I am confident that the Chinese government will succeed in promptly carrying out rescue and treatment of the injured ones and restore normalcy in the lives of people,” wrote the former President.

It may be noted that an earthquake measuring 7.0 in the Richter scale with its epicenter in Tibet occurred at 6:50 am on Tuesday. The tremors were felt in Kathmandu Valley and vicinity while it also jolted Nepal’s eastern districts.

Chinese state media have so far reported that the earthquake has left at least 120 dead and another 188 injured in the earthquake.
