Former President addresses cultural exchange programme in China

Kathmandu, May 30: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has stressed the need to enhance cultural and civilizational cooperation to achieve world peace, stability and goodwill.

In her keynote address at the fourth dialogue programme on the exchange of cultures and mutual learning held today in Dunhuang, Gansu Province of China, the former President stated that the world is a beautiful garden of diverse cultures, where various ethnic groups, languages, and cultural amalgamations coexist peacefully.

As she said, the event holds much significance at a time when the world is marred by various conflicts rooted in political, security, economic, ideological, ethnic, and cultural issues. The dialogue was jointly organized by the Chinese Association of International Understanding and the Gansu Provincial Government, aiming to embrace the core spirit of the “Silk Road” while accelerating the implementation of global civilization, according to Bhandari’s personal secretariat.

On this occasion, she highlighted Dunhuang’s historic role as a meeting point of the northern and southern branches of the Silk Road, making it an ideal location for the event.

Former President Bhandari also spoke about the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which is, as she argued was driven by the visionary leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping that seeks to revive, expand and renew the ancient Silk Road through global connectivity and economic cooperation.

She recalled the historic visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Nepal in 2019.
On behalf of Nepal, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, the apostle of world peace, Bhandari extended her congratulations to the organizers and attendees of the event.
