Birgunj (Parsa), Aug 29: Nepali Congress (NC) General-Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa emphasized the need for the healthcare facilities, especially the Narayani Hospital, to keep essential drugs and healthcare workforce in a state of readiness to contain the outbreak of cholera reported in Birgunj area.
Thapa, also former Health Minister, said so in a discussion with the Hospital’s administration after meeting the cholera patients and their families at the Narayani Hospital in Parsa district today.
He also urged the Hospital authority to ensure that there are no any lapses or shortcomings in treatment of the cholera-patients.
“Patients coming to avail treatment for cholera should receive quality healthcare services for free of charge. For that, the Hospital administration should make proper arrangement for essential medicines, vaccines and human resources,” reiterated Thapa.
He pledged to coordinate efforts with the Minister for Health and Population and other relevant agencies to ensure availability of essential drugs and secure other assistance to the Hospital after he returns to Kathmandu.
Thapa vowed to provide any support and coordination from his side for infrastructure development in the Hospital.
Furthermore, he called on the hospital authorities to pay special attention to the cleanliness in the Hospital.
“When I was the Health Minister, I experienced that cleanliness was a major issues in hospitals across the country. I tried to address this issue during my nine months in the office but of no avail,” recalled Thapa.
He argued that cleanliness is not just about physical cleaning of the hospital premises and restrooms. According to him, cleanliness is also a larger part of proper management of human resources, good-governance and other multidimensional aspects.
Lawmaker Thapa experienced that cleanliness was a significant difference between private hospitals and public hospitals. Hence, he urged the hospital administration to pay special attention to keeping the hospital clean and tidy.
He called on every one to work together to develop Narayani Hospital as the centre of hope and trust for Birgunj and the surrounding areas.
