Kathmandu, March 10: Dr Om Foundation has officially announced the first round of scholarship recipients, distributing Rs 2 million to support deserving students from all seven provinces and 37 districts across Nepal.
The scholarships focus on students from marginalized communities such as Muslim, Dalit, Janajati, Madhesi, Tharu, orphans, people with disability, and those from very low-income families, aiming to assist those facing significant financial barriers to continuing their education.
In February, the Foundation had announced the total scholarship fund of Rs million, which has now been allocated to students in the first round. The Foundation confirmed that a thorough selection process was followed, including verification through various channels and, in some cases, conducting online interviews to ensure the most deserving candidates were selected.
In first round 60 students will receive scholarships. Among the 60 scholarship recipients 40 are female and 20 male students.
According to a statement issued by the Foundation, the names of students from the remaining districts will be announced shortly. The foundation has further called on the public to support its efforts by filling out an online form to nominate deserving students for future scholarships.
In addition to the scholarships, Dr Om Foundation has been actively supporting underprivileged students with essential stationery materials to help them in their studies.
The Foundation has also been actively involved in various health and awareness initiatives, including a nationwide school health program in 2024 focused on combating tobacco use. Through this program, the foundation reached thousands of students across Nepal, raising awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco. Schools from all provinces participated in various activities, including quizzes, poetry, and art competitions, to empower students and send a message to both students and their families about the dangers of smoking and tobacco consumption.
The Foundation’s activities, including scholarships and health programs, are entirely funded by the proceeds from Dr Om Murti Anil’s book “Jeevant Sambandh”. Dr. Anil personally covered all the costs of publishing the book and donated all the proceeds to support the Foundation’s mission, states the statement.
Established in 2023, Dr Om Foundation continues to make impact through its various activities in the field of health, education and social transformation.
