Constitution Amendment Discussion Paper Taskforce rules out constitution amendment contrary to sovereignty

Kathmandu, April 8: The first meeting of the taskforce mandated to prepare the constitution amendment discussion paper was held at the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministries today.

The meeting chaired by Asim Sah, political advisor to Prime Minister Balendra Shah and coordinator of the task force, thanked the Government of Nepal for forming a task force to prepare a discussion paper on constitutional amendment.

Coordinator Sah informed that the task force aims to broadly advance the topics related to constitutional amendments. He stated that the process of constitutional amendment would be based on national consensus, participation, and facts.

Coordinator Sah said that Article 274 of the Constitution provides explicit provisions regarding amendments and clarified that the constitutional arrangement does not allow the constitution to be amended in a manner that is contrary to sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence, and the sovereign power vested in the people.
