China ready to help upgrade Barhabise-Tatopani road: Ambassador Chen

Sindhupalchok, May 30: Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal Chen Song has said that China is ready to help upgrade the Barhabise-Tatopani road section.

During a discussion held on Wednesday evening with stakeholders at the Tatopani Customs Office about border management and the road leading to the Miteri Bridge, Chinese Ambassador Chen said that both countries can build roads together. He also shared that Chinese technicians will come to study the location of the landslide and other facets of the road.

On the occasion, MP from Sindhupalchok, Madhav Sapkota, shared that 1.2 billion rupees has been allocated for the upgrading of the road and proposed that both countries should work together on it.

Head of Road Division Office, Dolakha, Arjun Shrestha, presented a detailed project report of road upgrading work prepared by Nepal.

Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Dr Rupak Sapkota, Chair of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality Pasangnorbu Sherpa, local people’s representatives, political parties, the Chief District Officer, the Chief of Security Agency, the Chief of Customs Office, Division Road Office staff were present in the discussion.
The Tatopani trade and transit point with China was closed following the 2015 earthquake and was re-opened in September 2023. And an agreement was reached during the visit of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to China last October for the Chinese side to help upgrade the road leading to the border crossing.
