China–Nepal Border Trade Mechanism Holds Third Meeting in Lhasa

Lhasa, Jan, 22:  The third meeting of the China–Nepal Coordination Mechanism on Border Trade and Cooperation was held in Lhasa on January 20–21, co-chaired by Nepali Industry, Commerce and Supplies Secretary Dr Ram Prasad Ghimire and Xizang Vice Chairman Zhao Peng.

The meeting agreed to promote bilateral trade, strengthen connectivity and expand cross-border cooperation. Key discussions included the 1981 Trade and Payments Agreement, border pass simplification, continued zero-tariff access for Nepali goods, reduced trade time and costs, and improved border operations.

Both sides also discussed infrastructure and logistics projects, including border roads, customs facilities and cross-border tourism, and agreed to enhance cooperation in investment, agriculture, transport and tourism.

The two sides decided to hold the fourth meeting in Kathmandu at a mutually agreed date.
