Agency, Jan 4: Barcelona, who sit at the top of the Spanish La Liga table, secured an important victory on Saturday night, defeating Espanyol 2–0 to extend their lead at the summit to seven points.
Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski scored one goal each for Barcelona, with both goals coming in the final five minutes of the match. Barcelona broke the deadlock in the 86th minute when Olmo finished calmly from a pass by Fermín López.
Deep into stoppage time, in the 90th minute, López again provided the assist as Lewandowski found the net to seal a convincing 2–0 win for the Catalan giants.
With this victory, Barcelona have accumulated 49 points from 19 matches and remain firmly at the top of the La Liga standings. Espanyol, who have played one match fewer, remain fifth on the table with 33 points.
