APF clinches National Women’s Football Championship title

Gaighat (Udayapur), Feb 21: The Armed Police (APF) won the title of the National Women’s Football Championship, defeating Tribhuvan Army Club 2-1 in the final match held at the Tharuhat Stadium ground in Gaighat today.

Geeta Rana scored one goal and Renuka Nagarkoti added another one for APF, securing a victory against the Army, according to the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), the organiser of the Championship. Jennifer Rana scored the only goal for the Army.
APF, which won first place in the Championship, has received Rs 750 thousand and a trophy, while the runner-up Tribhuvan Army has been awarded Rs 500 thousand, ANFA General Secretary Kiran Rai said.

Geeta Rana of APF was declared as the ‘player of the match’. She received 7,000 rupees. Rashmi Kumari Ghising of APF, who scored the most goals during the Championship, was awarded 50 thousand rupees, according to the organisers, ANFA.

Nepal Police has been declared the best team of the tournament. The organisers have stated that a cash prize of Rs 50 thousand was given to the police team. ANFA General Secretary Kiran Rai said that APF’s Anjana Rana Magar was declared the best goalkeeper of the tournament and Army’s Deepa Shahi was recognised as the most important player of the tournament, and both were awarded Rs 50 thousand each.

The Championship had kicked off on February 13 and saw participation from 10 teams. The organisers have stated that the matches were conducted on a knockout basis.
FIFA had contributed financial support for the Championship sponsored by Rum Pum Instant Noodles Ltd.
