Malta’s Ambassador Gauci calls on Vice-President Yadav

Kathmandu, Sept 15: Malta’s Ambassador to Nepal Reuben Gauci paid a courtesy call on Vice-President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav on Sunday.

In the meeting held at the Office of the Vice-President at Lainchaur, Kathmandu, they discussed strengthening of bilateral relations between Nepal and the Republic of Malta. The discussion also centered on exploring potential of cooperation between the two countries in the areas of investment, trade, tourism and labour, said the Office of the Vice-President.

On the occasion, the Vice President highlighted the enduring relations between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1983.

Stating that Nepal attaches high importance to the relationship with Malta based on friendship, amity and cooperation, he expressed his confidence that the relationship would continue to grow in coming years.

Sizable number of Nepalis is in Malta for higher education and employment, Yadav said, “Although Nepal is a landlocked country and Malta is an island, these two nations are collaborating on international issues of common interest such as sustainable development and climate action.”

Referring to Nepal’s target to upgrade to the middle-income status by 2030, he underscored the need for substantial capital, technology, investment and economic cooperation from the international development partners to meet this target. He assured Nepal’s readiness towards cementing relations with Malta for mutual benefits at bilateral and multilateral levels.

In response, Malta’s envoy Gauci said that Malta shares robust relations with Nepal and expressed his interest in establishing Nepal-Malta Chamber of Commerce.

Praising Nepal’s beauty and hospitality, he noted that around 10,000 Nepalis were currently working in Malta.
