Kathmandu, Nov, 5: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has denied any wrongdoing in the dispute over the party’s official status, insisting that he has not been involved in any improper financial transactions.
In a video message posted on social media on Thursday, Thapa said he was standing on firm moral ground and had nothing to hide.
His remarks come amid controversy surrounding publicly circulated audio involving intermediary Inam Sapkota, which has raised questions about alleged financial dealings in the legal battle over the party’s legitimacy.
Addressing the allegations, Thapa said that despite claims involving millions of rupees, he had not engaged in even a single rupee’s worth of improper financial transactions.
“Be assured that I, Gagan Thapa—your brother, son, friend and party president—am not standing on weak moral ground. My hands are clean. Speak in my support with confidence. The wrong questions should not be directed at me; the right questions should be asked in the right place,” he said.
Thapa also described the party’s special general convention as an internal revolt, arguing that those who take a stand against the existing order do not concern themselves with the consequences.
