India Today: A special MP/MLA court in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur on Monday acquitted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a 2018 criminal defamation case over remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, citing a lack of evidence.
Gandhi appeared before the court for the pronouncement of the verdict. His supporters welcomed the decision and expressed happiness and gratitude.
The case was filed by BJP leader Vijay Mishra, a resident of Hanumanganj under the Kotwali Dehat police station limits in Sultanpur and a former chairman of the Sultanpur District Cooperative Bank.
Mishra filed the complaint on August 4, 2018, over remarks Gandhi made about Shah during a campaign rally in Bengaluru ahead of the 2018 Karnataka Assembly elections. Congress welcomed the verdict claiming, “Truth alone triumps.”
