Concrete bridge linking Ghiring and Dedhgaon restored

Damauli (Tanahun), Oct 15: The concrete bridge linking Ghiring and Dedhgaon, which was damaged by flooding in the Kaligandaki River, has been restored and is now operational after an 18-day closure.

The flood, which occurred on September 27, swept away access roads on both sides of the bridge, affecting connectivity between Ghiring Rural Municipality in Tanahun and Boudikali Rural Municipality in Nawalpur.

A temporary access road to Nawalpur was completed last week, while the road towards Tanahun was finalized on Wednesday. Hom Bahadur Thapa, the Chairman of Ghiring Rural Municipality, confirmed that vehicles resumed operations across the Kaligandaki Bridge following the completion of the access roads.

The repair work was carried out by Siddhababa Construction Services with financial and technical assistance from the Road Division Office in Tanahun. The reopening of the bridge is anticipated to facilitate smoother traffic flow from Ghiring to various destinations, including Nawalpur, Palpa, Syangja, and Chitwan, thereby improving transportation for local residents, passengers, and goods.
This iron bridge, constructed approximately 12 years ago, serves as a crucial crossing point for thousands of passengers and numerous vehicles daily, particularly between the Pokhara, Gaindakot, and Rampur areas.

Thapa noted that the bridge’s reopening has provided significant relief to citizens during the Dashain festival.
