Six companies shirking construction blacklisted

Jumla, Oct 4: Six companies contracted for construction and upgrading of road along the Karnali Highway have been blacklisted for violating the contract. The companies were contracted to maintain the roadway en route to Manang-Mustang from Jumla as well. The Public Procurement Monitoring Office took action against them.

Chief of the Road Division Office in Jumla, Shravan Kumar Mahatara, informed that the Jumla Office initiated the report against the construction enterprises and forwarded to the Head Office in Kathmandu for action. The Binamra Construction Service of Surkhet, which was contracted for building roadway to be effective from fiscal year, 2075 to 2080, was blacklisted for three years.

The Dhruba Building Service, Birendranagar was in the list to face action with two year’s suspension from procurement service and the Abinash Construction Service of Chhayanath, Mugu for one year. The blacklisting aligns with Clause 63 of Public Procurement Act, 2063.

Sub-engineer at the Road Division Office, Birendra Rawal, informed that Shankar Mali Construction Service of Kathmandu and the Man Shahi Construction Service of Kalikot were put on a blacklist for three years while the Kashyap Contractors Service, Kathmandu for two years.

These building entities failed to abide by the contract, leading to punishment by the authority.

As long as the action remains in effect, the concerned companies are barred from procurement service.

Number of terminating industry on rise

Meanwhile, the number of cancellation of industries is on rise lately. In the fiscal year, 2082/83, total 180 industries were terminated, while 188 were registered and 334 renewed.

This information was shared by chief of Industry and Consumer Protection Office, Tanka Prasad Neupane. Under commerce sector, 61 firms were registered, while 58 were renewed and 52 cancelled.

Nearly 1.6 million was collected in revenue in the fiscal year, 2082/83, Neupane added. In the first two months of the fiscal year, only 43 firms are in the registration list. The number of renewal stands at 119 and termination at 5.

Under the commerce sector, 11 firms are registered. The latest trend of industry registration is in decline, he observed.

He further informed that registration of new firms is in decline for four years. On the other hand, the number of industry termination is on rise, the Office showed. Among the firms listed in new entry at Office are related to production, agriculture and forest, service, tourism, construction and IT.
