Kathmandu, Sept 29: Nepal has exited from the tournament after the cancellation of its scheduled match against Sri Lanka in the quarter-finals of the men’s cricket under the 20th Asian Games due to rainfall. The Games is going on in Japan.
The match between Nepal and Sri Lanka scheduled for today at the Korogi Sports Park in Nagoya failed to begin owing to rainfall. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) shared that the match was cancelled after even the toss could not be held due to adverse weather. It has crushed Nepal’s dream of reaching the semi-finals this time too.
As per the tournament rule, if the match cannot be held, there is a provision that the team ranked higher in the T20 international rankings is considered the winner, thereby making headway to the next round.
Sri Lanka is ninth in the current T20 world rankings and Nepal’s 14th.
It has been raining continuously in Nagoya since Saturday. Even the group stage match between Nepal and Japan was affected on Saturday.
Earlier, Nepal had defeated Afghanistan by five wickets in the first match of the group stage. Nepal had advanced from the group after sharing points with Japan in the final match of the group stage.
