Kathmandu, Sept 15: Nepal has established its diplomatic ties today with the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). With this, the number of countries with which Nepal has established diplomatic relations has reached 185.
Lok Bahadur Thapa, the Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations, and Jeem S. Lippwe, the Permanent Representative of the Federated States of Micronesia to the United Nations, signed a joint statement to this effect, according to the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the UN.
On the occasion, the two representatives exchanged views on cooperating with each in various areas of mutual interest, including in national and international forums.
Micronesia, an island nation, in the western Pacific Ocean comprises more than 600 islands. It gained independence on November 3, 1986, and became a member of the United Nations on September 17, 1991.
The country covers a total area of 701 square kilometres and is home to an estimated population of 100,000. Both Nepal and Micronesia are members of the Group of 77(G77).
