Saptari, Sept 13: Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel asserted that the government will prioritize suggestions and feedback from students, parents, teachers and people’s representatives and education professionals in Madhesh Province in shaping education policies and programmes.
Minister Pokharel reaffirmed his commitment during a visit to Kesho Aniruddhabati Secondary School in Rajbiraj today to gather feedback relating to the National Curriculum Framework, 2076 BS.
Pokharel also pledged to visit schools across Madhesh Province including Saptari district to assess their ground reality.
The Minister vowed to seek suggestions from those directly involved in education so as to make school education more practical, skill-oriented and relevant to the times.
Shedding light on the efforts towards this end, he informed, “We are currently collecting suggestions through in-person consultations and as well as in writing in different districts.”
The Minister reiterated, “We plan to prioritize the feedback received from such consultations and move forward with our work accordingly.”
Pokharel, who has been touring Madhesh Province for the past three days in the context of collecting feedback, expressed his confidence that the proposed education legislation would reflect the actual needs and experiences of students and teachers.
According to him, the stakeholders had furnished the suggestion highlighting the need to develop a new curriculum that would prioritize skill-based education.
Arguing that understanding problems at the grassroots level would make it easier to find practical solutions, he said that similar consultations would also be conducted in other provinces.
Meanwhile, a delegation led by Madhesh Province Agriculture University Registrar Dr Bhagawan Thakur submitted a memo to Minister Pokharel, calling for provincial universities to receive support and recognition on par with federal universities.
Then memo also drew the attention of the Federal Minister towards a host of demands such as better coordination with the University Grants Commission and other institutions, an integrated entrance examination system and the inclusion of agricultural colleges established in the province under the university.
