Gen Z Martyrs Day: Public holiday today

Kathmandu, Sept 8: The first Gen Z Martyrs Day is being observed in Nepal today.

Gen Z movement occurred a year back on September 8-9 had caused dissolution of then government, thereby installing a new one led by former chief justice Sushila Karki. It was the interim government which successfully conducted the March 5 election.

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which secured near two-thirds of votes in the election, formed a government under the leadership of a young leader Balendra Shah.

The government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah has announced a public holiday on the Gen Z day today in memory of those losing lives in the historic movement. The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on September 3 had decided to give a public holiday today.
