Agency, Sep 5: Real Madrid suffered their first defeat of the La Liga season after Kylian Mbappé missed a late penalty in a 1-0 loss to Real Betis on Friday night.
In the match played in Seville, Trooy Parrott scored the decisive goal to secure all three points for Betis. After a goalless first half, Parrott put the hosts ahead in the 81st minute.
Real Madrid thought they had found an equalizer six minutes later when Carlos Espe scored, but the goal was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.
Madrid were awarded a penalty in the third minute of stoppage time after Natan fouled Vinícius Júnior inside the box. However, Mbappé failed to convert from the spot, with Betis goalkeeper Álvaro Vallés making the save to preserve his side’s 1-0 lead.
The defeat leaves Real Madrid on nine points from four matches, keeping them in second place. Betis also have nine points from four games but moved up to third following their victory.
