Kathmandu, Spet, 4 : China’s Xizang Autonomous Region has handed over materials for two 100-metre-long Bailey bridges to Nepal for installation in areas affected by recent floods.
The handover and takeover ceremony was held at the Consulate General of Nepal in Lhasa on Friday. Nepal’s Consul General to Lhasa, Laxmi Prasad Niraula, and Ouyang Zhibing, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Xizang Autonomous Region, signed and exchanged the handover certificate.
The Nepalese Consulate General had earlier requested China’s Xizang Autonomous Region to provide 30 Bailey bridges for installation in flood-affected areas.
The materials for the two bridges reached the Korola (Lizi) border point in Upper Mustang on Friday and are scheduled to be received by the Nepali side the same day.
China has also provided technical personnel to support the effective and smooth installation of the bridges. The technicians are expected to arrive in Nepal soon.
The materials include Bailey panels, stiffening cords, sway braces, brace bolts, Bailey pins, decking panels, steel plates, beams, channel steel and pipe-welding equipment.
Officials from the Consulate General of Nepal in Lhasa and the Foreign Affairs Office of the Xizang Autonomous Region were present at the ceremony.
