Rasuwa, Sept 1: The bodies of 66 people who perished in the Bhotekoshi flood have been retrieved from different parts of Rasuwa district, police said.
Ashok Thapa, Chief of District Police Office, Rasuwa, told Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) that 10 bodies were found in Betrawati, 50 in Timure and six in Syafrubeshi. Six of the recovered bodies have so far been identified, informed police.
Additionally, authorities are collecting the dead bodies and preparing to bring them to Dhunche, while search operations continue for people still missing in the disaster.
Families displaced from Kaindaltar in Betrawati have been temporarily housed at various locations in Shanti Tole in Tarkeshwor Municipality in Kathmandu district. Likewise, displaced residents from Timure and Syafrubeshi are sheltered at Pahelo Gumba in Raniban.
Some affected families have been accommodated at Turkuchiling Gumba in Dhunche, while others are housed at Bhimsen and Shivalaya primary schools in Majhgaun of Rasuwa, according to the District Disaster Management Committee.
More than 600 people affected by the devastating flood have been rescued so far. The raging Bhotekoshi had swept away roads and bridges, cutting off several settlements in western part of Rasuwa.
Relief supplies therefore have been airlifted to Thomang, Chilime, Goljung, Haku, Dadagaun and Thulogaun, among other affected areas, informed Dhruba Prasad Adhikari, Assistant Chief District Officer.
Furthermore, food supplies are also being transported by helicopter to other flood-affected areas such as Laharepauwa, Betrawati, Pahirabesi, Ramche, Khaidi of Timure, Birding, Sherpa Gaun, Khamjing and Syafrubeshi.
The catastrophic flood on August 26 had damaged scores of lives and property and disrupted roadways and electricity supply.
Communication services have resumed in most parts of the district while the Nepal Electricity Authority has accelerated extending a transmission line from Balaju in Kathmandu through Shivapuri, Chaugada, Narja, Saramthali, Kalikaisthan to Dhunche in Rasuwa to restore regular power supply to the flood-hit areas.
