Kathmandu, Aug, 29: Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal held a telephone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday, focusing on the devastating floods along the Nepal-China border and ongoing rescue efforts.
During the conversation, the two ministers expressed deep sorrow and condolences over the loss of lives and property in both countries caused by the floods in the border area.
They discussed the ongoing search, rescue and relief operations in the Rasuwa-Gyirong port area, which was severely affected by the disaster. The two sides also discussed arrangements to facilitate the return of Nepali citizens stranded in China.
Minister Khanal thanked the Chinese government for providing emergency humanitarian assistance following the disaster.
According to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides also agreed on the need for greater coordination in exchanging real-time hydrological and meteorological data and strengthening mechanisms to establish an effective early warning system for transboundary disasters.
