NC decides to focus on relief and rescue putting off all set programmes

Lalitpur, Aug 26: Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to focus on relief and rescue efforts by adjourning all pre-scheduled programmes of the party.

In his address to the emergency central committee meeting held today at the party’s central office in Sanepa, President Gagan Kumar Thapa directed to immediately engage in rescue and relief operations due to vulnerable situation triggered by unexpected and sudden flooding in Rasuwa.
He informed that the ‘Green Table’ programme planned for today, and the ‘Women Entrepreneurs Conference’ scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) have also been postponed.

“In this difficult situation, I urge everyone to exercise high alert and stay safe in the lower banks of the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers and surrounding areas.”, Presidetn Thapa said.
He took the opportunity to request the government to deploy entire state mechanism and coordinate with all levels of government to focus on rescue and relief.

Thapa further said, “NC’s parliamentary party leader and the Member of Parliament from Rasuwa have attended the meeting called by the government and presented their views.

The NC will extend full support and cooperation for the government’s disaster management efforts, he announced.

Thapa also appealed to all committees, leadership, and members of NC in districts including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, and Chitwan to keep the families living in coastal areas to safe locations and that rescue and relief efforts be immediately mobilized and supported.
He informed that all party members at every level are requested to engage in search, relief, and rescue wherever possible.

He also stated that under the coordination of Mohan Acharya, the MP elected from Rasuwa, efforts will be mobilized to collect aid for those affected by the floods and coordinate with the government to gather support from party members across the country.
