Kathmandu, Aug 25: Dibas Pokharel has been elected the President of the Everest Summiteers Association (ESA).
A new working committee of the Association was elected unopposed under the leadership of Pokharel. The Association’s convention was held at its Tilganga-based central office on Tuesday.
Pokharel was elected president of the ESA in accordance with the Everest Submitter Association Statue, said chief election officer, Bhupendra Prasad Pokharel.
Likewise, Diki Sherpa, Madan Kumar Chudal, Shiva Bahadur Sapkota, Chhoki Sherpa and Wangda Sherpa were elected as first vice-president, second vice-president, general-secretary, secretary and treasurer in the new working committee respectively.
Similarly, Lakpa Yanji Sherpa and Pasang Lhamu Sherpa were elected members in the committee. The ESA has been working for the welfare of Everest summiteers and promotion of mountaineering sector since long.
Newly elected president Pokharel pledged to play significant role for social security of climbers, environmental conservation and development of mountain tourism during his term. —
