Agency, Aug 23: Real Madrid made a winning start to their La Liga campaign, edging past Espanyol 2-1 in a hard-fought encounter on Saturday night.
Jude Bellingham and Carlos Espe scored for Real Madrid, while Alex Calatrava found the net for Espanyol.
Real Madrid took the lead in the ninth minute when Bellingham headed home from Arda Güler’s cross.
Espanyol responded in the 30th minute, with Calatrava converting a pass from Javi Hernández to level the score at 1-1.
The match appeared destined to end in a draw, but Real Madrid struck again in the final minute of regulation time. Espe found the net to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory for the visitors.
The win gives Real Madrid three points from their opening league match and gets their La Liga campaign off to a positive start.
