Kathmandu, Aug, 20 : Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Amresh Kumar Singh has urged officials of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) to maintain the commission’s constitutional independence and not attend meetings simply at the invitation of the prime minister or ministers.
Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives’ State Affairs and Good Governance Committee on Thursday, Singh said the CIAA does not fall under the authority of the prime minister or ministers and should preserve its constitutional dignity.
He said CIAA officials can appear before parliamentary committees for discussions but should not go to the prime minister or ministers whenever they are called.
“The CIAA is not an institution under the prime minister. Its dignity is declining day by day, and it is not fulfilling its constitutional role. This trend must end,” Singh said.
Singh also called for an end to the practice of political power-sharing in appointments to constitutional bodies.
He said many constitutional institutions have become dominated by former government employees and warned against allowing them to turn into “clubs of former employees.”
“Let’s end the politics of power-sharing and not allow constitutional bodies to become clubs of former employees,” he said.
