Kathmandu, July 29: Coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has expressed the view that the situation that has arisen in Dewanganj, Sunsari needs to be eased through dialogue, consensus, and political understanding.
At the all-party meeting called today by Rabi Lamichhane, president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, to discuss the Sunsari incident and other matters, Dahal said that all political parties, the government, and stakeholders should come together and move forward by focusing on social harmony, peace, and mutual trust.
“This is not the time to increase political bitterness, but the time to show national responsibility. The incident should be investigated impartially and the guilty should be punished,” he said.
Stating that using force cannot be a long-term solution to any problem, Coordinator Dahal stressed that the government needs to be more responsible, active, and sensitive in difficult situations.
Former Prime Minister Dahal suggested that the Prime Minister immediately engage all political parties and initiate an all-party dialogue and consensus.
Recalling how parties in the past had set an example of common consensus and national unity during disasters like earthquakes and floods, as well as in complex processes like drafting the constitution, coordinator Dahal pointed out that that same political maturity, dialogue, and sense of responsibility are still needed today.
He stated that the party has already made an official statement regarding the Sunsari incident and has also given necessary instructions to the party ranks to maintain restraint and social harmony at the local level.
Coordinator Dahal said that at the scene, not only local people but also external elements that could provoke the situation might be active, so everyone needs to stay highly alert.
