Kathmandu, July 29: National unity is necessary to maintain peace, order, and harmony, it was emphasised at the all-party meeting convened today by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) president Rabi Lamichhane to discuss the Sunsari incident and other issues.
In the meeting, the RSP president emphasized that all political parties should unite for the national interest, setting aside all the political prejudices in difficult situations.
After the meeting, he told the journalists that guidance was sought from the top leaders of the major parties and that political parties need to stand together responsibly during difficult times in the country and, if necessary, collectively draw the government’s attention.
e emphasized that even though the political parties have their own political turf, they should fulfill shared national responsibilities without making accusations and counter-accusations on such matters.
Stating that the government has also been active on its part, he said since the government was represented in the meeting by Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, it would be irrelevant to say that the government did nothing or showed no interest.
“Our first duty is to maintain peace and security in the country. The government is doing its job. What is needed today is to maintain peace and harmony. We must be serious to prevent social discord from arising,” said Lamichhane.
“The loss of a citizen’s life is a serious matter. The facts of the incident will be made public after investigation. Some of the things currently coming out might also be rumors.”
According to him, it was decided in the meeting to issue a joint appeal to maintain religious and social harmony, and it would be made public as soon as possible.
