Kathmandu, July 21: The Department of Electricity Development has issued survey licenses for 99 hydroelectric projects in the fiscal year 2082/83, from July 17, 2025 to July 16, 2026. The total capacity of these projects is 3,211 megawatts.
Similarly, it has provided survey license to seven solar energy projects. The capacity of those projects is 311 megawatts.
Similarly, a survey permit has been granted for projects with 179 circuit kilometers of 220 kV capacity and 270 circuit kilometers of 132 kV capacity transmission lines. Likewise, a survey permit has been given for a project of 132 circuit kilometers of 33 kV capacity.
The department stated that production licenses have been issued to 29 projects. Their total capacity is equal to 1,857 megawatts. In the solar energy sector, three projects have received production licenses. Their capacity is 31 megawatts.
The department collects around 3.5 billion rupees in royalties annually. The collected royalty amount is shared with the province and local levels. The department has stated that this has made a significant contribution to the economic progress and development of the province and local levels.
So far, the department has issued 264 production licenses for hydropower projects. The total capacity of these projects is 12,336 megawatts. There are a total of 10 solar energy projects with a total capacity of 74.0 megawatts that have received production license, said Mon Devi Shrestha, the department’s director-general.
