Switzerland cruise past 10-Man Bosnia to boost knockout hopes

Kathmandu, June 19 : Switzerland strengthened their chances of reaching the FIFA World Cup 2026 knockout stage with an emphatic 4-1 victory over 10-man Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday morning.

At Los Angeles Stadium, Switzerland produced a dominant late display, with Johan Manzambi scoring twice, while Ruben Vargas and Granit Xhaka added a goal each. Irmin Mahmic netted a late consolation goal for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After a goalless first half, Switzerland finally broke the deadlock in the 74th minute when Manzambi found the back of the net to give his side the lead.

Bosnia’s hopes of a comeback suffered a major blow in the 80th minute when Tarik Muharemovic was shown a red card, reducing his team to 10 men. Switzerland quickly capitalized on the numerical advantage, with Vargas doubling the lead four minutes later.

Manzambi struck again in the 90th minute to make it 3-0 and effectively seal the victory. Bosnia managed a consolation goal through Mahmic in the third minute of stoppage time, but Xhaka restored Switzerland’s three-goal cushion with a strike in the seventh minute of added time to complete a convincing 4-1 win.

The victory moves Switzerland up to second place in the group standings with four points from two matches, significantly improving their prospects of advancing to the knockout stage. Bosnia and Herzegovina remain third with one point from their opening two games.
