Buddha’s precepts alone are basis for sustainable peace and prosperity: President

 

Kathmandu, April 30: President Ramchandra Paudel has said that sustainable peace and prosperity can only be established if the Buddha’s teachings on non-violence, friendship, compassion and wisdom are translated into practice.

Addressing the Diamond Jubilee of the Hiranyavarna Mahavihar Taremam Sangh located in Nagbahal, Lalitpur, President Paudel stated that Buddhist philosophy, based on peace, coexistence, the middle path, and compassion, plays an important role in guiding the global community towards stability, cooperation, and mutual trust.

“In today’s world, plagued by numerous problems such as conflict, selfishness, decline of ideals, erosion of morality, intolerance, and deterioration of human values, the teachings of Buddha are becoming increasingly relevant,” the Head of State reminded.

President Paudel further stated that since Buddha’s teachings provide happiness, peace and joy to humanity, this knowledge is being spread worldwide, adding – “Nepal, the birthplace of the super human Gautam Buddha, who is honoured as a symbol of peace, is a matter of pride for all Nepalis.”

The President stated that attention should be given to further strengthening and consolidating national unity by adhering to the inspiring teachings and guidance of the Apostle of Peace- Buddha, while maintaining tolerance and mutual harmony amidst religious, social and cultural diversity.

He said Buddhism and the Buddhist philosophy, expounded by Bodhisattva Siddhartha Gautama Buddha, who was born in Nepal, have spread worldwide, adding that the Four Noble Truths, the principle of Pratityasamutpada or the dependent origination, and the Noble Eightfold Path shown by the Buddha have shown the path to liberation from suffering for all beings.
