Kathmandu: The Chinese New Year Lantern Festival 2026 will be grandly celebrated at the historic Patan Museum, bringing together light, culture, and tradition in a vibrant cross-cultural celebration.
The festival is jointly organized by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nepal and Lalitpur Metropolitan City.
Co-organizers include the Nepal Overseas Chinese Association and the China Cultural Center in Nepal.
The Launching Ceremony will take place on February 17 at 5:30 PM, with entry strictly by invitation and printed tickets only.
Following the inauguration, the Lantern Festival Exhibition will remain open to the public from February 18 to March 3, 2026, with free entry for all visitors.
Carrying the theme “Snow-Capped Peaks Aglow with Hues, Festive Lanterns Bring Auspicious Blessings,” the festival symbolizes friendship, prosperity, and cultural harmony between Nepal and China. The exhibition is expected to feature traditional Chinese lantern artistry reflecting the joy and blessings of the Lunar New Year.
Organizers have warmly invited the public to join the celebration and experience the vibrant spirit of Chinese culture in the heart of Lalitpur.
