Kathmandu, Kathmandu, Feb 8: Canada’s British Columbia province has officially recognized May 29 as ‘Nepal Heritage Day.’
The date marks the historic Everest ascent in 1953 by Nepalese climber Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary. The proclamation by Lieutenant Governor Wendy Cockfield praises the Nepalese community for its contributions to the province’s social, economic, political, and cultural development.
It also highlights the role of Nepalese citizens in enriching British Columbia’s cultural and ethnic diversity and commemorates the Everest ascent as a symbol of courage, unity, and Himalayan heritage.
