Kathmandu , Jan 8 : The Government of Nepal has said it is closely following the recent developments in Venezuela.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal urged all concerned parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could further escalate tensions.
Nepal stressed the importance of fully respecting the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of states, as enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.
The statement also emphasised that all disputes should be resolved peacefully through dialogue, diplomacy and mutual understanding.
Meanwhile, the US military has arrested Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife on charges of drug trafficking and arms smuggling and taken them to the United States. Venezuela’s government is currently under US control.
