Sunsari , Jan 1: A five-point agreement has been reached to form an investigation committee after local resident Vijay Sah died from a gunshot fired by the Armed Police Force in Koshi Rural Municipality-1, Sunsari.
Sah, who was returning from India in a city safari vehicle carrying goods, was shot at around 1 a.m. on Wednesday night and died on the spot, authorities said.
A meeting of stakeholders held at the District Administration Office on Thursday, convened to ease tensions following the incident, agreed to conduct a fact-finding investigation and ensure justice for the victim’s family.
The probe committee will include representatives from the Koshi Province Office of Nepal Police and the District Office of the National Investigation Department. The committee will submit its report within seven days.
The agreement further states that, if the investigation concludes the death resulted from negligence by security personnel, a recommendation will be made to the Ministry of Home Affairs for relief and compensation as per existing laws. The Chief District Officer will also facilitate employment opportunities for Sah’s widow.
