UML moves Supreme Court demanding reinstatement of House of Representatives

Kathmandu, Nov 25:  The CPN-UML has filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court demanding the reinstatement of the dissolved House of Representatives.

The petition was jointly submitted on Monday by Mahesh Bartaula, Chief Whip of the UML Parliamentary Party in the dissolved House, and Whip Sunita Baral.
In the petition, the UML has called for the annulment of the appointment of Prime Minister Sushila Karki, the dissolution of the House, and all decisions and appointments made thereafter.

Chief Whip Bartola said the petition argues that Karki’s appointment is prima facie unconstitutional, as she is not a member of the House, does not command the support of any party, and was appointed in violation of Articles 76 and 132(2) of the Constitution.
The petition has also sought to invalidate all decisions, appointments, oaths, and subsequent government actions carried out following the President’s appointment.
